Julia H Rhee

Julia H Rhee is a triple threat - fierce entrepreneur, impeccable stylist, and tireless activist. On any given day, she might be creating a Community Heroes lookbook, producing a "social barter" party, or serving the local chapter of the National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum.  All this, while looking flawless.

Wish her luck as she kicks off "The Counter Generation" - a cross-country research project to determine how we can sustain mom and pop businesses across the country. 

Zim Ugochukwu

We first met Zim at one of our SF Score! events last year, and have been smitten ever since. Who knew that one person could wage a successful campaign against the Tobacco Industry, work to improve healthcare by leveraging technology, and travel on a train with other social entrepreneurs to support grassroots enterprise in India. No wonder she was recognized by Glamour Magazine as a Woman Of The Year. 

Last year, Zim launched Travel Noire - a project designed to give amazing curators from the African Diaspora a platform to share their love of travel through tips, insights, reviews, and editorials. Plus, she just made a video on how to pack carry-on luggage like a boss. Watch & learn.

Aaron Durand

Will Bundy and Max Gibson are the two mastermind's behind Wine & Bowties - an online platform that celebrates the best and brightest talent in Oakland. Through creative panels, film screenings, bike rides, art shows and all-night warehouse ragers, W&B is a huge reason why Oakland has become the artistic pulse of the bay. Mandy Harper is here to save the world... through baked goods. When she's not riding around town with her adorable puppy Mogwai, you'll find her with sleeves rolled up, pounding out delicious cookies, cakes, breads, cupcakes and brownies. When he's not hosting elaborate underground dinners, pop-up small batch markets, or hosting wild mushroom foraging trips, Iso is mostly likely bent over a pig spit with his plaid sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Keep an eye out for his upcoming launch of Forage Kitchen - a co-working space for independent food producers.

Trail Mavens

While cooking oatmeal at dawn in the mountains of Bolivia... Sasha Cox realized something crazy: her love of backpacking could only be traced to the male figures in her life. Everything she had learned about camping came from her father, brother, boyfriend, etc. And so, the idea for Trail Mavens was born - hosting outdoor adventures for women.

We love Sasha's determination to build confidence and self-sufficiency in celebrating the wilderness. Because, as everyone knows, confidence is the root of style.

What does a ramen shop, a geodesic-shaped retail store, a pop-up night market in a noodle factory, and a homebrew supply store have in common? This guy Robert Patterson.

In the past few years, he has quietly launched some of the city's most noteworthy spots. From Ken Ken Ramen, to Revolver SF to The Voyager Shop, to Black Sands Beer... honestly if you chuck a rock in SF you'll probably hit something he created. Though his projects vary, the core themes stay the same: quality, craft and thoughtful style.

Cafe St Jorge

Tucked in the outer mission (or Bernal or "La Lengua" depending on who you ask) this little cafe serves comfort, community & damn good coffee. Walk into this sun-filled space and you'll realize why the thick avocado toast, the ridiculous smoothies and portuguese baked goods have quickly turned Cafe St Jorge into a neighborhood treasure. The best part? You'll often find the owner - 28yr old Andrea De Francisco - smiling behind the counter. In a city that is rapidly changing, it's nice to find that some things remain the same: good people running good businesses with love.

Leah Perloff

You've probably seen Leah Perloff aka Workalook aka DJ Rapidfire at all the hottest events around San Francisco. When she's not throwing insane parties, making bodies drop / pop on the dancefloor, or styling looks that'd make Rihanna jealous, you can catch her twerking through showers of glitter in our favorite SF music video "Bucket Betch."

Drake Natural

Oakland native and Brooklyn resident Dominique Drakeford is blazing a fierce trail in ethical fashion. Through her PR and community development company Drake Natural, she is working to increase the visibility of socially responsible designers and connect them to the audience they deserve. Recently Dominique and her sister Jazmyne hosted a "Secondhand First-Class" thrift sale at the East Oakland Youth Development Center. Stay tuned as these ladies continue to revolutionize the fashion industry, one statement piece at a time. 

Studio Nico

We first fell in love with Nico's SF skyline shirts and Good Grammar Is Sexy notebooks, but she continues to knock us out with her flossy Bay Area sports gear. If you want to support a badass local entrepreneur, check out her online shop or find her at outdoor markets around the city.
